Ditchweed? The things I don't know about drug culture

Apparently the DEA has been hellbent on eradicating plants that don't hurt anybody and grow wild. I had to go here for a completely unbiased analysis of what the numbers meant.

But, it seems to me that we do spend an inordinate amount of capital on drug law enforcement. Why? Drugs are bad, m'kay? Not cigarettes and alcohol, of course. Those aren't drugs, they're lobbys. The sheer size of the drug exonomy is such that it cannot be eradicated without having a profoundly negative effect on the rest of the "legitimate economy." So the government doesn't want to eliminate drug traffcking. It wants to *look* like it wants to eradicate drug trafficking. Gack. What a filthy, filthy thing this whole issue is.
